Bonnie Jane Conrad
The family of Bonnie Jane Conrad, 60, of Lunenburg, is comforted in sharing the news of her release from Alzheimer’s disease with her passing on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, in Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg.
Born in Lunenburg, Bonnie was a daughter of the late Leo and Verda (Ernst) Conrad.
Bonnie led an amazing life filled with many accomplishments. She participated in the Special Olympics World Winter Games (1997) earning one gold and two silver medals in speed skating events, as well as actively participating in the Special Olympics National Summer Games in various swimming events. Bonnie learned to play the guitar, taught initially by her best friend, Sharon Rhino; loved to ride her bike, and when she received her driving license, going to Little Lake Campground to swim. Her mother and later Brian and Barbara saw to it that she was a regular swimmer at Bachmans Beach.
Her talents were also made apparent during her time working with the Ark in Bridgewater, however everyone knew that her interest in cooking was not a skill she cared to develop. Not one to sit still, she loved to get up on the dance floor wherever there was music and loved to follow her team the Toronto Maple Leafs. Up until 2013, when she moved to Bonny Lea Farm in Chester Basin, she was her mother’s companion and later her caregiver. As her Alzheimer’s progressed, she moved seamlessly into Harbour View Haven in Lunenburg, which she took in stride. There she brought smiles to many faces until her passing.
As soon as you met Bonnie you were a friend and received one of her genuine hugs to make sure you knew this. She knew everyone, and they were usually “from her school bus.” Once you met Bonnie, you could not help but love her.
Bonnie will be missed by her brothers, Laurel (Lillian) Conrad, Dartmouth, Bert (Maggie) Conrad, Moncton; sister, Barbara (Brian) Himmelman, Lunenburg; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will be having a Celebration of Bonnie’s life at the Lunenburg Fire Hall on June 21st, at 2:00 PM. Arrangements entrusted to Personal Care Cremations.
Donations to Bonnie Lea Farm or to a charity of your choice in Bonnie’s memory would be appreciated by the family.
The family would like to thank Bonnie Lea Farm, where she was able to live independently for as long as possible, as well as Harbour View Haven for the comforting care given to Bonnie and the support shown to her family.

Sending my sympathy and condolences to the family. I was very sad to learn about Bonnie’s passing. I remember her as a young enthusiastic girl starting out at Bonnie Lea Farm and she maintained that warm, helpful, eager vitality over the years. I ‘ll miss her zealous hugs, as many will, and have fond remembrances of her spirited presence. So sorry to have missed her celebration of life.
We are very sorry to hear of Bonnie’s passing. We enjoyed seeing her at the cottage. She was such a fun loving friendly sole. Bonnie’s will be sadly missed family and friends.
Although I never had the fortune to meet Bonnie, I remember the stories from Barbara about her during my visit to Elaines and know she was very loved. My condolences to her family and pray her memory brings you peace.
Barbara, Brian and family, my sincerest condolences. My memories of Bonnie was playing cards at your place and I believe it was Skippo we played along with a drink of rum and Bonnie telling me it was my turn. I know she loved playing cards. She was always so jolly.

On behalf of Bonnie’s friends, co-workers, and supporters at Bonny Lea Farm, I send along our sincere condolences to all of Bonnie’s family. Bonnie was one amazing woman! She always had a twinkle in her eye and a grin to go along with it. She could quite quickly brighten up a challenging day for those she came in contact with. She was a woman that knew what she wanted and didn’t let anything get in her way. She was empowered by her family to be her true self and enjoy life and all it had to offer. We were blessed to have her in our lives and she will never be forgotten!
My sincere condolences on the loss of your sister. I am very sad to hear of Bonnie’s passing, but happy for her that she has relief from suffering from Alzheimer’s. I took guitar lessons with Bonnie 40 years ago when I was in Grade 12. We would drive out together to LRVS. She was a really good guitar player – best in the class. She was sweet and funny and had a great sense of humour. We had a lot of fun, and I would always enjoy dropping in to see her and her Mom. Heaven has a beautiful new angel.
I hope you can all take some comfort in happy memories.
Bonnie was quick to befriend us when we moved in across the street and we had many chats with her along the way. We were frequent recipients of her warm hugs.
