It is with a deep sense of loss that the family of Brian Wade Lohnes “Tootie”, 62, of Hebbville, shares the news of his passing on Monday, April 13, 2026, at South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of Ralph and Lillian “Jippie” (Baker) Lohnes.

Our dad was a hard working man, who always ensured his family had what they needed, along with spending every minute that he could with his kids. He was a devoted family man, he would spend all his free time with his wife and kids, that could be taking long drives to the Valley or stopping at every drug store in Halifax, he was even brave enough to travel alone with his two daughters whether it be to Crystal Place in Moncton or a car drive to Toronto for 2 weeks.

He loved being in the woods, driving eighteen wheelers and any big machine he could get behind. Over the years this included tree farmers, processors, graders, dump trucks, excavators big and small.

He also enjoyed being outside in nature fishing, hunting, BBQing which is normally what he would be doing in his off time. For example, on Christmas day one year we got dad a brand-new huge BBQ and he took it outside to make lunch on Christmas day and yes there was snow on the ground, and a cop did stop to ask dad if everything was okay. He laughed because he just couldn’t wait to try this new BBQ. We are still to this day pretty sure that dad thinks BBQ is the only way to cook.

Our parents have been together almost 42 years and in the last 7 years, Mom was not only his wife, but she also became his caregiver and no matter how sick dad got she was always there cheering him on to get better so he could come home and ring his bell for help. (Please keep in mind he rang it just for fun many many times a day).

Katie, his oldest daughter, sold her house three years ago to move in with her husband and two kids to help her mom take care of her dad. Katie went to every doctor’s appointment and blood work. Spent days running after the ringing bell. Always cheering him on to get up one more time.

Dad had a laugh that could make your day and a great sense of humor. Always trying to make people smile even when he was in pain. His beautiful blue eyes are something he passed down to both his daughters and all his grandchildren.

His true pride and joy in life was the day he became Poppy. He has three grand daughters and one grandson. Riley was his first granddaughter; she has had him wrapped around his pinky since the day she was born. Then a couple of years later Callie was born, and she gave everyone a run for their money. Karley the third granddaughter was born in 2017, shortly after in 2018 when dad got sick, he enjoyed more of the simple things in life. He would always be ready with cartoons and snacks. Then later in 2023 Levi, his only grandson was born. He was proud to share his middle name “Wade” with him.

Brian is survived by his loving wife of forty-one years, Vicki; his much-loved daughters, Katie (Joshua LeCain) of Hebbville and Kerri-Ann (Norman Fraser) of Conquerall Mills; and his brothers, Barry (Faye) and Corey (Alexis). He was a proud grandfather to Riley, Callie, Karley, and Levi.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by John “Toadie” Lohnes.

In keeping with Brian’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services.
