In loving memory of
Carolyn Esther Lohnes
The family have chosen this music to commemorate their loved one.
Carolyn Esther Lohnes (née Johnson), age 79, of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 27, 1946, in Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia, to Augustus (“Gus”) and Mary Johnson, Carolyn was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of 59 years, Terry, and a much-loved mother to her children Kurt (Jennifer) and Terri (Chris). She was a proud grandmother to Kathleen (Spencer), Maeve (Sam), and Clare, who became the joy of her later years. Some of their happiest times were spent baking, reading, and playing at the beach with Nanny.
Carolyn grew up in Lunenburg and was working at Frittenburg Jewellery when she met and married Terry, the love of her life. She later worked as a medical secretary at Patterson, Morse and Kelly, where she made many dear friends, before her retirement.
Whether drawing, painting, rug hooking, baking, or gardening, Carolyn poured her creativity into everything she touched, leaving behind countless beautiful things enjoyed by family, friends, and neighbours. She loved to travel — from road trips with family and friends and chaperoning school tours to Germany, to beloved vacations in warmer locales with best friends. She and Terry also created many fond memories sailing their boat, Tekama. A life-long learner, Carolyn made the bold decision to return to school later in life, proudly earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Dalhousie University.
Carolyn will be remembered for her kindness, humour, and generosity of heart. She was a caring, supportive mother, grandmother, and loyal friend. She gave the best hugs to anyone who needed them, and her kitchen stools were a gathering place for gentle, sage advice, always offered without judgement.
She is survived by her husband Terry, her children Kurt and Terri and their families, and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Gus and Mary, and her two brothers, Gary and Ricky.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Catherine Kelly and the dedicated team at Harbour View Haven for their exceptional care and support of Carolyn and her family throughout her journey with dementia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia in Carolyn’s honour. A celebration of life may be held at a future date. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Personal Care Cremations.

Dear Terry
We are saddened to hear of Carolyn’s passing. Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family.
Terry, Kurt, Terri and family,
Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss. I was very saddened when I heard of Carolyn’s illness. The obituary said it so well; she was a bold, brave, bright, warm, and compassionate lady. A beacon of light for all who knew her. I was very fortunate to be able to get to know her as « Kurt and Terri’s Mom » as well as a work colleague in later years. She was a blessing to all who knew her and I hope you are able to take comfort in happy memories of a life well lived.

Dear Terry, Kurt and family,
Carolyn was one of the kindest women I have ever met. Her warm, and welcoming ways were special to us in our early years on Wilneff’s Island, and also in later years when we became family as our children ( Kurt and Jennifer) married and started a family together. Her kindness will live on
in the grand daughters we share.
Dear Terri,
We were heartbroken to hear about your mom’s passing. Please know that our thoughts and love are with you and your family in this very difficult time. May you find comfort in the memories you shared and in the closeness of those around you.
With love and sympathy,
Dragan and Dushka
