In loving memory of
Carolyn Jean Swinimer
The family have chosen this music to commemorate their loved one.
It is with a deep sense of loss that the family of Carolyn Jean Swinimer, 80, of Mahone Bay, formerly of Martin’s River, share the news of her passing on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater with her family by her side. Born in Bloomington, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Goldie (Bruce) Trask.
Carolyn will be remembered as an exceptionally hard working, thoughtful, kind, and creative individual and the best mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was also like a second mother to many other “kids” whom she loved. She spent many years working at the Oak Island Inn as a line cook where she made many lifelong friends until she was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis in 2002.
Life wasn’t always easy for Carolyn, but you would never hear her complain. When she lost the use of her legs, she didn’t let it slow her down. She was a puzzle master, dedicated bird watcher, a skilled gardener, country music lover, and never missed a birthday or anniversary. For Carolyn, any moment or milestone that her family or friends celebrated was special – and you can be sure she would write a card with an envelope decorated with her beautiful handwriting and a variety of stickers and gems she had for every occasion.
After the loss of her husband, Carolyn went on to reside at the Mahone Bay Nursing home where she became friends with the residents and staff alike. She enjoyed getting her hair done at the “salon”, participating in art classes and even art shows, and visits from her family and friends, including her son and daughter who visited almost daily.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Heather Robertson and the incredibly skilled, professional, and deeply caring nursing staff on the 3rd Floor Med/Surg Unit at South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater.
One of Carolyn’s other great loves in life was Elvis Presley and his music. So, a quote from the King seems very fitting: “Until we meet again, may God bless you as he has blessed me.”
Carolyn leaves behind her children, Kathy (Stephen) Myra and Michael (Kristina) Swinimer, both of Martin’s River; much loved grandmother to Mitchell (Abbey) Myra, Linnea (Danielle Cyr) Swinimer, Brianna (Holden Penny) Andrews; and especially proud great-grandmother to Ellie and Archie Myra; her brother Glenwood (Connie) Trask, Kingston, NS; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Carolyn was predeceased by her husband David; sister, Helena Parker; brothers, Clayton Trask and Murray Trask in infancy; as well as three nieces, Beverly and Joan Parker, Lorraine Wells.
In keeping with Carolyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 12:00 -2:00 p.m. at the Mahone Bay Fire Department, Mahone Bay. Arrangements entrusted Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation or another charity that you feel would be meaningful to Carolyn.

A beautiful tribute for a truly remarkable woman. My mother Brenda had an enduring friendship with Carolyn that lasted throughout their lives, wherever they were. They held a love and respect for each other unburdened by time or distance. What a gift. My deepest condolences to all of Carolyn’s family for such an immense loss.

So sorry to hear of the passing of my beautiful friend. Our sincere sympathies go out to all the families at this sad time. Joe and I will never forget her. Until we meet again!
I have the fondest memories of Carolyn who became one of our most accomplished painters. Her kindness, sense of humour and positive attitude helped us all and made Art class a joy. She became an avid art student and an accomplished painter very quickly , producing many lovely paintings and participating in several art shows. I will miss her. My sincere condolences to her family. Vaughan
