Charles "Ted" Edward Brown
It is with great sadness that the family of Charles “Ted” Edward Brown, 77, of Halifax, share the news of his sudden passing on Monday, June 15, 2026. Born in Saint John, NB, he was a son of the late Truman and Irene (Whitman) Brown.
Ted grew up in East Saint John, New Brunswick graduating from Simonds High School and the New Brunswick Institute of Technology with a diploma in Instrumentation Technology. Ted’s career in Instrumentation started with New Brunswick Power at Colson Cove. The family moved to Cape Breton for a job with Nova Scotia Power at Lingan. After 18 years in CB, Ann and Ted move across the country to Kitimat BC for a job at Alcan, after which he retired.
The decades in Cape Breton were a great place to raise their two boys. He was involved in the boys’ activities and the local community. The people and music of Cape Breton were a great joy.
After the move to northern BC, many travels around Western Canada were a great adventure. They later moved to the Okanagan and spent 18 years in Penticton BC. Ted volunteered and spent many hours over the years converting their front and back yards to quite the showcase. They were thrilled to host many visitors and tour them around the wineries and other scenic parts of Southern BC.
He especially enjoyed his time accompanying Ann to her job on Haida Gwaii for 5 years where he had a new “career” as a Hospital Security person. They had more adventures and the beach combing was amazing.
Family brought them to Halifax in 2020, which required a challenging trek across the country in the midst of the pandemic. Exploring Nova Scotia, re-experiencing East Coast Music and meeting up with friends and relatives was wonderful. Once in Halifax, one of the greatest joys for Ted was being Grampie to Naomi.
Ted leaves behind his wife, Ann; sons, Jason (Jane Britten), of Halifax, Jeremy (Sabrina Breault), of Montreal; proud grandfather to Naomi Brown and Juliana “Jules” Schlamp; sister, Nancy Hope, Saint John, NB, sister-in-law, Pat Brown, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Jack, brother-in-law, Jim Hope.
In keeping with Ted’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there is to be no public memorial service. Arrangements entrusted to Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services.
Donations in Ted’s memory to the Souls Harbour Mission or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Please accept my most sincère condolences. Grief unimaginable but one offset by the memory of a life well lived, full of love and joys and wonderful adventures too many to count. I’ve only met your husband, your dad, once, but he struck me as a fine man indeed. He lives on in you forever.
As life’s journey passes we meet and enjoy many people, some of which become friends, a few of which become special friends. Ted was a true friend who expressed sincere care whenever we crossed paths. A big loss for me. Ted has left me memories which will last forever. Thanks, my honorable friend.
To Ann and family, I’m am so saddened by the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and brother. Ted was a very special person.
Ann, Jason, Jeremy, and all the family: Our hearts are breaking for each of you. There are simply no words to express how saddened and devastated we are by this sudden loss. Ann and family. We are so sorry for your loss. Ted was a man who always had a great sense of humour. He brightened a room when he entered as he always had a smile on his face. Don will especially miss the deep worldly conversations they always had. He was a lovely man and will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to you.
