Chesley James May
With a deep sense of loss, the family of Chesley James May, 80, of Bridgewater, share the news of his passing on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater.
Born in Beloram, NL, he was a son of the late Cheslea Sr. and Myrtle (Fralick) May.
Chesley spent his working career as an offshore fisherman, fishing out of Lunenburg for a number of years, he then went down to Massachusetts where he scallop fished for twenty-five years. Following his time south of the border, he returned home to Nova Scotia to enjoy his retirement and spend his time closer to his family. Chesley was an outgoing person, who loved to joke around, play cards, especially Poker, Wisk and a South Shore favourite, Cribbage. In his spare time, he simply enjoyed hanging with his buddies.
Chesley is survived by his sons; Chesley Jr. Ontario, Eric (Tina McCarthy) of Dayspring; proud grandfather to Emily May and Shauntel Troup; and his sisters, Pearl Conrad, Chester, Myrtle Parson, Clearland and Clara Crocker of Alberta.
In keeping with Chesley’s wishes cremation has taken place and there is to be no public memorial service. Arrangements entrusted to Personal Care Cremations and Memorial Services.
Donations made to Childhood Cancer Canada in his memory would be appreciated by the family.

to the family of chessie. I fished with ches a long time ago and had yarns up at the plaza parking lot. If you didn’t laugh at whatever joke or story he talked about, you must of been deaf. He always had myself and Bubby Himmelman in stitches. I always left to go home with a sore stomach. from all the laughing. Rest in peace my friend and say hello to Andrew for me. I remember Chessie as kind hearted man. He would bring my sister (Edna Langille) homemade meals when she wasn’t feeling well even though he had to walk them to her on the seat of his walker. A true gentleman and may he rest in peace.
