It is with profound sadness that the family of Clinton James Edmonds, aged 86, of Seabright, NS, announces his peaceful passing on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Q.E.II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.

Born in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England, Clinton was the son of the late John and Gertrude (Smailes) Edmonds.

Clinton leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara; his daughters, Elizabeth Edmonds and Penelope (Mike) Irving; granddaughters, Sarah Mason and Louise Mason. Clinton was predeceased by his parents and his brother, John Edmond Edmonds.

In 1960, Clinton graduated with honours in Civil Engineering from Durham University in the United Kingdom. Clinton and Barbara then married and embarked on an adventure sailing on the Queen Elizabeth from Southampton to New York.  From there, they traveled on The Rock Island Line to Ames, Iowa where Clinton continued his post-graduate studies in Environmental Engineering completing his MSc. and PhD.

In 1965, Clinton and Barbara, along with their young daughters, emigrated to Canada. He began his engineering career with Marshall Macklin Monaghan Engineering and later joined James F. MacLaren Ltd.  During his time with MacLaren’s, Clinton worked on projects in Halifax.  He fell in love with the city and in 1973 joined Environment Canada as Regional Director General.

Clinton’s love affair with the sea began early, He joined the Sea Scouts at age ten and remained part the troop until he married and went abroad to continue his studies. He often reminisced about his time with the Sea Scouts and the lifelong friends he made.  These years were to lay the foundation of the man he would become.

Throughout his life, sailing remained a significant and enjoyable part of family life.  Beginning with a Wayfarer dinghy and finally with a Swedish Albin Vega, most weekends and vacations were spent on the water.

Clinton was a pioneer in the art of recycling – there was always another use for something.  He taught his children to repair, not replace; how to problem solve and be independent thinkers.  Clinton prepared his daughters for life.

In keeping with Clinton’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
