Cora Irene Smith

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cora Irene Smith (Bugbee) on Sunday, March 1st, 2026. She was predeceased by her husband James (Jimmy); her parents, Beatrice and Harold Bugbee; brothers, Leonard, Harold, and Ronald; and sister, Sheila.
She is survived by her twin sister, Laura and children, Bernie, Paul, Arnold, Debbie, Sharon (Ryan) and Kevin; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Born at home on January 17,1933, in Amherst, NS. She lived most of her life in Glen Haven, since the age of nine. She lived at her house in Glen Haven, since 1950, after getting married until moving to Parkland (Clayton Park) in September 2024. She worked at Sears for 18 years before retiring in 1992. She also worked cleaning the Glen Haven (two-classroom) school for 16 years before it was closed.
She lived a life full of adventure. Line dancing with three line dancing groups: Vera’s Happy Dancers, Roping the Line and Scotia Legion. She enjoyed the outdoors, (cross-country skiing and hiking). She had a love of the arts, decorating cakes, sewing and decorating for Christmas. She also loved to cook, bake and make pickles. She will be remembered for her chocolate peanut butter balls, skor squares and date squares, which were enjoyed by many of her family and friends. She was active with the White Caps Seniors group and TOPS.
Many thanks to her friend Stella Pulsifer, for the many drives, and to Bay Rides for taking her grocery shopping every Tuesday and getting her to her appointments. A thank you also goes to all the staff on the 6th floor of the QE2 Hospital and particularly those working in 6.2. A special thanks to her niece, Sherry Bugbee for spending countless hours caring for her during her stay in the hospital.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter’s Church, 10030 Peggy’s Cove Road, Hackett’s Cove, on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. The Cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted to Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services of Hubbards. On-line condolences may be left at: www.personalcarecremations.ca. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s Church (Hackett’s Cove), Bay Rides, or the charity of your choice.

So sorry for the loss of a great lady. She was so special to my kids. Halloween is not the same after losing Cora. Her generous bag of treats where the best in town. I had to stop in once in a while and catch up on the local news as she was always in the know. Sadly missed!

To the family and loved ones of Cora, so sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful, kind, and positive person. Many times we would see each other at the grocery store and have our little chats. She gave a lot to all who knew her. Time for her to RIP. 💐
Some family members leave a lasting imprint on our hearts, and their passing creates a space that can never truly be filled.
I feel so blessed to have had my Aunt Cora in my life since childhood. I have such beautiful memories of visiting her home, where she, Uncle Jipper, and the whole family always made us feel so loved and special. Our sleepovers there are memories I will treasure forever.
I am also grateful for the time I was able to spend with her later, even caring for her during those nights in the hospital. Those moments meant so much to me.
Aunt Cora, thank you for all the love and kindness you shared throughout the years. You will always hold a special place in my heart and will be deeply missed.

To Cora’s family,I send my sincere condolences 💐. I knew Cora from TOPS Hammonds plains. We had great chats all the time. I know how much she loved her music and at that time she loved George Canyon. She made sure to be at all his shows. A beautiful lady. Cherish your memories.

I will miss my visits with Cora at Parkland, We always had a few chuckles and lots of discussions about life in Glen Haven. Cora led an active life for many years dancing, skiing, and raising her children. To all Cora’s Family , may you find peace in the days ahead and remember all the good times over the years. We send heartfelt condolences and our prayers in the passing of your dear mom. She was always happy to see us when we came to visit Norah, when we lived away for so many years. She was a wonderful neighbour and friend to Mum and Dad and family, for the many years they lived next door to each other.

Cora, who I always called “Mrs. Smith,” was a powerful influence of positiveness, fairness, and well-spirited nature, in my life as a growing boy. I loved to visit her, her husband and the family throughout my teenage years when her son Bernie and I played our guitars and sang for her on numerous occasions in her living room.
She always made me feel welcome, and encouraged Bernie and I, and our forming band with our musical passion and aspirations.
Cora, I’ve always thought about you over the many years and have held you in the highest regard. Our little band, Bernie S., Bernie J., Gordon H., Mike A., and I will miss you dearly.
My condolences to her family. She lived her life well and there are so many who will miss her. Cora, keep dancing in heaven and save a space for all of us in your line…
