Denton Lewis Conrad
Denton Lewis Conrad, 86, of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of service, compassion, and quiet strength. Born in New Germany to Berle and Pauline Conrad, Denton was a devoted son, brother, father, and friend whose life reflected a deep commitment to both country and community.
Denton began his military service in 1956, joining the infantry and training as a paratrooper. He went on to serve with distinction for eight years before transferring to the Administrative Corps. His dedication took him abroad for three years with NATO aboard a naval ship, followed by four years posted at Stadacona Hospital in Halifax. After retiring from the Canadian Armed Forces, Denton continued serving the public at the Bridgewater Library, retiring at the age of 65.
A man of many interests and quiet generosity, Denton was an avid reader and lifelong learner. He was an active volunteer with the Canadian Mental Health Association and the Schizophrenia Society of Nova Scotia, also serving on its national board. Proud of his heritage, he was a member of the German Canadian Cultural Association of Lunenburg and valued the connections it fostered. He looked forward to the friendships and conversations with his coffee friends; and his Birthday and Breakfast Clubs and he sincerely hoped these communities would continue on after him. His presence will be greatly missed.
Denton is lovingly remembered by Leora Oickle, his very best friend and his sons; Stephen, Berle, Norman, and Bradley; brothers; Noel, Derrik, and sisters Barbara Hebb and Wanda Harris and many extended family members and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Berle and Pauline,brothers Bernard Conrad, Forrest Meisner and Barry Conrad and sister Joan Zwicker and by his son Adam, who passed away at the age of eight following a courageous battle with leukemia.
Denton will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his steady presence, thoughtful nature, and a lifetime of dedicated service.
In keeping with Denton’s wishes cremation has taken place and there is to be no public memorial service. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Personal Care Cremations.
In lieu of flowers donations made to The Canadian Mental Health Association would be appreciated by the family.

Thank-you for the kind messages about Dad. He was a one of a kind that’s for sure.
It was the best of times and the worst of times and just about everything else you could possibly imagine. And whatever it was – life was never ordinary and almost always unforgettable.
Through it all he persevered and managed to make a great life out of what he had left. Thanks to so many of you who stuck by his side along the way. Together, you made lives extraordinary.

My Mom, Annette Collins was very sad to hear of his passing. He was a very nice man. I want to thank him for all the nice pics he took of my Mom while being part of the GCA and birthday club. RIP Denton.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Although Conrad is no longer physically with you, his love and spirit will always be present. Hold on to those memories and let them bring you comfort.
Dear family, sending deepest sympathy on the loss of dear Denton. He was such a good support to my family and worked tirelessly with causes pertaining to mental health. My mother and he worked very hard to support folks involved with the Schizophrenia Society of Nova Scotia. He also was a good support to me both personally and professionally. I enjoyed seeing him at the birthday club socials and I know he will be missed greatly. Our consolation is that he’s no longer suffering. Deepest sympathy to you all at this sad time. To the family: Me deepest condolences in the loss of Denton. I just recently got to meet and know him through the Birthday Buddies Club. Knowing that he is now no longer suffering is a true blessing. He accomplished a lot in his life and left a true legacy behind. Rest easy Denton. Til we meet again.
We were close through my aunt Leora for many years. His comradery always gave me a feeling of love and respect. I’m so grateful our family got to meet him. Brave souls are never forgotten. Condolences to his family.
