Donna Marie Myra
It is with a sense of great love, respect, and sadness that we announce the passing of Donna Marie (Swinimar) Myra on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, 2025 – our wife, mom, nanny, great nanny, and “Donna Marie!” She passed away at home with all her family spending quiet time with her, just as she wanted.
Donna, born on November 24, 1942, was the daughter of the late Otis and Irene (Corbin) Swinimar. She was also predeceased by a brother in infancy Otis, Jr. (Skip); mother-in-law Gladys Minnick; father-in-law, Noble Myra; sisters-in-law Sheila Barkhouse and Donna Hebb; brothers-in-law Laurie Myra and Fraser Hebb; and her fur-baby Maggie Mae.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years William Myra Sr.; three sons William Jr. (Pam), Paul, and Dennis (Lisa); seven grandchildren Alex (Mallary), Beth (Wayne), Tonya (Dan), Jenna, Jillian, Maddie (Ryen), and Bailey; three great-grandchildren Max, Harry, and Ryker; sister-in-law Stella Myra; brother-in-law Merrill Barkhouse; and many nieces and nephews.
Donna worked early on at Sears in Halifax and Mahone Bay, Bill’s Store, and then she became the “boss” for William Myra & Sons for several years.
Nanny was our chief cook and cookie maker! We will miss her family meals made with lots of love (her spaghetti sauce and baked beans were legendary) and cookies made to order for her great grandsons and eaten by many patrons of Chester Building Supplies – she was the “Cookie Lady” and the provider of bagged spaghetti for those who didn’t return her Tupperware. She still loved getting out in her gardens – we will miss seeing her weeding and planting flowers.
Special thanks to Dr. Kenneth Rent and Dr. Douglas Choo of Valley Regional Hospital, South Shore VON, Palliative Care, and Home Care. As well as her caring angels Beth, Pam, and Billy.
Donations in Donna’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
In keeping with Donna’s wishes a private gathering will be held for the immediate family at a later date.
We will miss her forever!

We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you; you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories; your love is still our guide.
And although we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link us again.

I am so sorry for your loss. Donna and I usually ran into each other at the post office and we always had a lengthy chat about something . . She was a special lady and I will miss seeing her now and then .
Our deepest sympathies are with all of you. Donna was a lovely person, we always had nice chats whenever we saw each other. She will be missed by all who knew her.
