It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth Eva Christena Boutilier, 72, of Bridgewater, announce her peaceful passing at home on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Earle and Elizabeth (Chisholm) Ross.
Elizabeth grew up in New Glasgow with her two brothers and her devoted parents. Driven by a passion for science, she pursued her training as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Halifax. Throughout her career, she worked in laboratories in Halifax, Bridgewater, Oklahoma, and South Carolina, where her dedication and professionalism were appreciated by colleagues and patients alike.
Elizabeth met her soulmate, Bill, over 50 years ago and together they built a beautiful family and life together. Above all else, Elizabeth cherished her role as a mother to her four children. As their family journey took them to several different communities, she had a remarkable gift for building lasting friendships wherever life led her.
If there was one role she loved as much as being a mother, it was being a grandmother. Known affectionately as “Mema,” she treasured every moment with her eight grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
In recent years, Elizabeth discovered a passion for shuffleboard. She embraced the sport with enthusiasm and especially enjoyed the friendly competition and camaraderie she found with her fellow players in Bridgewater and during her winters in Florida. The friendships she made through the game brought her great joy.
Elizabeth will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 49 years, Bill; her daughters, Beth (Eric) Miller of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Jennifer (Tom) Vissers of Newcombville; her sons, Evan (Amy) Boutilier of Porters Lake and Colin Boutilier (Sarah Jesty) of Calgary; her beloved grandchildren, Libby-Anne, Charlotte, Micah, Kai, Austin, Ryder, Reese, and Ross; her brothers, Peter (Debbie) Ross of Truro and Hugh (Valli) Ross of Port Hawkesbury; as well as several cherished nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Elizabeth’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no public memorial service. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Canadian Red Cross, the VON, and the South Shore Palliative Care Unit for the compassionate care and support they provided.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services.
For those wishing to make a memorial donation, the family kindly requests contributions to the Canadian Red Cross, VON, or the South Shore Palliative Care Unit in Elizabeth’s memory.

I was just shocked to read today about Betsy . I never knew. I am so sorry . I enjoyed our visits and seeing her once in awhile. I belive the last one was the churches yard sale.

We are very saddened with the news of Elizabeth’s passing. It was at Golden Tee, our Florida winter retreat, that we met Elizabeth and Bill. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and wonderful sense of humor endeared her to all. And, the treats that came out of her kitchen were most delicious. Her passing has left a big hole in the Golden Tee family and she will be greatly missed. May the Angels carry her to paradise…

I had the privilege of meeting Elizabeth through floor shuffleboard in Bridgewater. A more kind, honest, and compassionate soul , you could not meet. You will be missed beyond words, by your many friends at shuffleboard, and beyond. ( And a fabulous shuffleboard player to boot). My sincere condolences to her remarkable husband Bill, and their children. Rest in peace Elizabeth. ( And if you’re looking down on any of our floor shuffle games, perhaps you could send me some tips).
I am so grateful to have been close friends with Elizabeth. We both spent our winters at the Golden Tee in Florida. We had many outings of lunch and shopping and lounging at the pool. Our conversations flowed easily having many things in common. I loved hearing about her family and all the joy they gave her. She was an excellent baker and cook. She enjoyed entertaining with Bill and their large circle of friends. I loved her sense of humor and we shared many laughs together. I will miss her forever and never forget the friendship we shared. Rest in Peace Elizabeth.
