In loving memory of

Elizabeth "Liz" Pauline Nickerson

13/10/1939 - 25/09/2026

The family have chosen this music to commemorate their loved one.

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Elizabeth “Liz” Pauline Nickerson, 86, of Bayport, announces her peaceful passing at home, surrounded by the love of her family, on Friday, September 25, 2026. Born in Bayport, she was a beloved daughter of the late Kermit and Pauline (Tanner) Himmelman.

Liz began her working career at Riverport Seafoods working in the fish plant. She later worked her way up to the office. She even travelled with the company and was sent to train new staff. Many will remember her as a waitress at her favourite spot, Zellers Diner, where she worked until stepping away to care for her aging parents.

Liz loved to fish more than anything. She would spend countless hours at Kraut Point Wharf with her best friend Debbie Bush and many others. She would jump at any opportunity to go on any boat and especially with her grandson Captain Glenn Freeman to try to catch some big ones.

The Riverport Rum Runners Sea Festival was always the highlight of her summers and she never missed one. Her walls were lined with plaques from winning for biggest groundfish and senior fisherwomen categories to name a few.

Travel was definitely her second favourite thing to do. she was lucky to see many parts of the world through cruises, adventures exploring new countries and states and spending many winters in Florida soaking up the sun. She made friends wherever she went and kept in touch with many she met on her trips.

Her love of animals was a source of happiness throughout her life. She had many pets, but her sweet cat Mousie was with her for 18 years. Then came Mickey her 1 Yr old Devon Rex and lastly her new love and soul kitty Scooby her cherished Devon Rex kitten she got just after Christmas last year.

Liz is lovingly remembered by her children, Janice (Donald) Freeman of Bayport, Linda (Mike) Savory of Pinegrove, and Andrew Oxner of Lower LaHave; her sister, Mona (Jacques) Lecavalier of Cantley, Quebec; her cherished grandchildren, Glenn (Roxanne) Freeman, David (Yagmur) Freeman, Nathan Herritt, Colin (Lindsay) Herritt, Devin Herritt, Shaylyn (Denis) Oxner, Tia Oxner, Drew Oxner, and Luke Oxner; as well as several special great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Liz was predeceased by her daughter, Joan, in childhood. Her first husband and father of her children Raymond Oxner as well as a son in law Thomas Nickerson.

The family wishes to send many thanks to the South Shore Palliative team of nurses and doctors and VON for their exceptional care and compassion. Without whom we could not have kept her wish to remain at home and comfortable.

We also want to thank her special girls Granddaughter in law Roxanne Freeman and Cait Garland. The love and amazing care you gave her was exceptional and we truly could not have done this without you by our side. The love and laughter that you surrounded her with in her last days was beautiful. She loved you both dearly.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 am. on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the Bayport Cemetery, with Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services.

In honour of Liz’s deep love for animals, memorial donations to the SHAID Tree Animal Shelter would be greatly appreciated by the family.
