Elward Charles Crouse
It is with the greatest regret that we have to announce the passing of Elward Charles (Puddles) Crouse, 84, of Lunenburg, on Friday June 6, 2025, at the Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg; he was surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Lunenburg, he was the son of the late Charles Norman and Audrey Louisa Crouse.
Elward graduated from the Lunenburg Academy and from there enrolled in the Royal Canadian Army for 3 years. After returning home, Spike Walters from the Town of Lunenburg took him under his wing where he worked for the next 34 years doing accounts payable, receivable, payroll and looking after the Cemetery records. Elward enjoyed many things in life including playing and coaching in both hockey and curling. He was very successful claiming several Canadian Firefighter and Legion Curling Championships and making many lifelong friendships along the way, many of whom he kept in touch with. He loved the outdoors whether it was fishing, hunting, making up his winter’s wood or just enjoying a cup of tea and smoking a cigarette on the deck overlooking the lake.
Left to mourn are his wife Carol Lee; his daughter Nicole and son Anthony (Jennifer); grandchildren Jason (Kelly), Emma, Eva and Lauren; great grandchildren Bali and Sonny Mae; sisters-in-law Beryl (David) and Carmen (Kevin); many nieces and nephews; and a special cousin Russell (Dianne).
He was predeceased by his parents Norman and Audrey and his beloved dog Odie.
We would also like to give a special thank you to Carmen and Kevin as well as Beryl and David for all their help. A huge thank you to Dr. Beaton, Dr. Conrad, Dashia and the staff of the 2nd floor Medical unit, and Matt W and the staff on the third floor at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital for the wonderful and compassionate care he received.
As per Elward’s request there will be no funeral service; cremation has taken place and there will be a graveside service for immediate family at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Michael P. Thornborrow at Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services.
Memorial donations may be made to the Lunenburg Fire Department, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #23, Lunenburg or the Canadian Cancer Society in his memory.

Please accept my sincere condolences and prayers on the passing of Elward. Carol Lee – I remember babysitting for Nicole and Anthony as a teenager. That was a day in age when we certainly knew basically all of the staff members at the Town Office and so many friends in our “small town.” My, the years have certainly passed quickly. Hugs to you, in your loss.
So sad to read about Elward’s passing, although I don’t think I ever called him by that name. We had a lot of laughs at work and as well at the lake where we made very special memories. One of best Christmases was when we arrived home from the north at the cottage to find the fire going, the tree all decorated even with gifts and later reindeer and sleigh tracks on the lake for the kids. A memory we think of often and have shared with many. My condolences to the family at this sad time. Puddles will always be remembered as a colleague, a kind man and a special friend. Rest In Peace.

My sincere sympathies on the loss of your husband and Dad. I have many memories of Mr. Crouse. He was a kind man with a great sense of humour. You always felt the room light up when he was there! He was very proud of Nicole and Anthony and always a very supportive fan at our curling games! He will always live on in your hearts.
