Gerald "Hut" Ray Hutchinson
Gerald “Hut” Ray Hutchinson, 98, of Bridgewater, passed away at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, on Monday, March 17, 2025, with his wife of 66 years by his side.
Hut was born in Wolfville, raised in Bible Hill, and was a son of the late Kenneth and Elizabeth (Blair) Hutchinson.
Hut served in World War II in the Royal Canadian Navy and he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #24, Bridgewater. After the war he headed west to BC and spent time working with the Canadian National Railway. Hut returned home to Nova Scotia and not long after began working alongside Dr. Wylie Smith at the South Shore Veterinarian Hospital in Bridgewater as a technician. A career that lasted from 1955 up until he retired in 1993. Over the years Hut made many friends both human and of the furry variety in this capacity. Hut met the love of his life, Margaret when he quietly took her arm on a public skating rink, and they were married in 1959.
Hut will be missed by his wife Margaret; sister, Victoria Haynes, Ancaster, ON; nephew, David; nieces, Cathy, Kendra; sister-in-law Barbara; relative, Stephen Keeble; as well as several incredibly special and close neighbours.
In keeping with Hut’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held in June at Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Rev. Sherolyn Riley officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Personal Care Cremations.
Donations in his memory to Hope for Wildlife would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Dear Margaret We just saw your husbands passing and are so very sorry for your loss. We have fond memories of you as our organist for our wedding many years ago. We never got to know your “Hut” bit remember this tall,.stately man walking his 2 beautiful Boxers” down King St. in Bridgewater. All your beautiful memories and faith will help you get through the difficult times ahead.

Margaret, I was away when Hut passed away and only yesterday I learned of his passing.Thankfully a dear friend let me know of your loss and of your fall. I am shocked and saddened to hear of both situations. I always enjoyed my chat with Hut and he was always so interested in so many people.
Margaret you two were inseparable and how many of us would love to have the years with our loved one that you two were Blessed to have together. I always say “Love” Is The Greatest Blessing,”

Oh my Margaret, I just heard of of Hut’s passing. I am so sorry and please know that my thoughts and sympathy are with you. Dad told me over the years of all the good times they shared growing up together in Bible Hill, like the time they rode their bikes to New Glasgow. They stopped at a store on the way back and Dad bought a loaf of bread and Hut bought a cigar! He often said those were the best times of his life.
