Harry Freeman Creaser

Although we grieve, we are thankful for the long and well-lived life of husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Harry Freeman Creaser, 95, of Lower LaHave, who passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
Born in Halifax, Harry was the son of the late Harry Wilson and Genevieve (Buffet) Creaser. At the age of 14, Harry began schooner fishing with his father on the Grand Banks. Over the course of his life, he sailed on many vessels carrying cargo to the West Indies, spent several years working on oil tankers on the Great Lakes, and worked as a painter in Halifax. He later worked as a fish cutter at Riverport Seafoods and then at National Sea Products in Lunenburg, retiring as a janitor in 1993.
Harry enjoyed hunting and fishing, helping family and friends, and appreciating the small things in life. He had a genuine love of story telling. You could find Harry touring the Riverport area each day, hoping to catch a friend for a yarn.
Harry will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Joanne; daughter Valerie (Philip) Creaser; son Michael (Andrea) Creaser; grandchildren Frank (Ilana) Creaser, Amos Creaser, Luke (Alyssa) Creaser, and Sophia (Bailey) Easson; great-grandchildren Mitchell and Maxwell Easson and Brynnlee Creaser; sister Ellen Simmons; sisters-in-law Marilyn Mosher and Colette Creaser; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Harry was predeceased by sister Mona (Ron) Wentzell; brothers Maxwell, Keith (Carolyn), and William (Diane) Creaser; and brothers-in-law Gilbert Mosher and Fred Simmons.
In keeping with Harry’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A family graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice.

Dear Creaser family, Life becomes so very different when a constant individual is no longer there. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Mr. Man. The other day,
and let me tell you one thing.
We were fishing haddock,
off the fairway buoy,
the outer one I mean.
We were sawing the boat in half,
for hours, most the day.
Pard was getting cranky,
and all that he would say.
Gotta shift. let’s shift…
We should move that way.
But we were drifting to the westward,
and I knew we were okay.
And at noon we ran into them.
nothing more to say.
The tide started to turn,
the wind blew the other way.
And Mr. Man, I swear.
As big as they grow,
as fast as we could haul them,
we gaft’d them over the gunwale.
We loaded her up to the oarlocks,
I said it’s time to go.
I pointed her to the northward,
before she started to blow.
With the sunset and wind,
the southerly swell on the stern.
We steamed back to Riverport
with plenty fuel left to burn.
Now, put some buns in the oven,
and a pot of tea on the stove,
Cause Mr. Man, I tell you one thing,
the fisherman is sailing home.

John and I were saddened to read of Harry’s passing.
John worked with Harry in the ’70’s at Riverport Seafoods.
Though it has been years since he saw Harry, he occasionally spoke of him. In fact we were at Kraut Point fishing for mackerel last weekend and as we come upon your house John said “I wonder how Harry is doing?”
