One of Mill Cove’s longtime legends has passed away at the early age of 58. The one and only “Chicky” who was fought by many, defeated by none until his second match with cancer when he gained his wings on August 16th, 2025, but not without a true Mill Cove’r style fight.

He had many titles such as Son, Brother, Grandson, Nephew, Cousin, Uncle and Friend but the most important one to him was, Dad. His three boys Damion, Travis (Autumn) and Davis were his pride and joy, his best friends and his greatest accomplishments in life as he could not have been any prouder to be their Dad. His world shattered in 2021 when Damion was taken long before his time.

When he was in his younger years, Chicky had many hobbies, doing burnouts, working on cars, chasing girls, racing go-karts in which he did for many years, even travelling to PEI for races and hanging out with his many friends. As he grew older, he started to settle down from the fun life and moved into a more serious side of himself, which was becoming a member of The Hubbards District 2 Fire Department. He was a Firefighter and Captain for many years proudly wearing number “05” until his first fight with cancer in 2009 which then caused it to be too hard for him to continue his love of firefighting. Another thing Chicky loved to do is work in the woods. He followed his dream and created his own business called Parks Forestry in which he ran for many years. You could even find his boys by his side at times when he was landing a tree like nobody’s business, a task that he was called upon to do for many people.  When he wasn’t in the woods, you could find him in a rink watching his boys play hockey. He loved every minute of watching their games and was saddened when he had to miss one. He loved the rink so much that working in a rink became his career. He ended his working career as a Chief Engineer at St. Margaret’s Centre in Tantallon in 2024. This is when the true fight started of Chicky vs Cancer. He was able to fight the monster for 19 months which takes a hero to do.

Along with Travis and Davis, he is survived by his brother Kevin (Sue) of East Jordan, sister Michelle (Dwayne) of Fox Point, Stepfather Terry of Mill Cove, along with many other relatives such as Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, Niece’s and Nephews.

He was also survived by his sweet canine girly Angel “Too” on the day of his passing. However, his sweet girl was sick with the same cancer as her Dad, so on August 19th, 2025, she crossed the rainbow bridge and found her Dad again.

Along with his sweet Son Damion, he is predeceased by his father Ira Parks Sr., mother Darlene Nowlan, Grandmother Nanny Della who raised him and treated him like her own son for the majority of his upbringing, along with other family members and friends that have gone before him. He is also predeceased by his first baby girl Angel who was his world many years ago. She also became the apple of his Nanny’s eye so together they raised and cherished Angel until cancer was just too much for her to fight anymore.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Paula Dominey for opening up her heart and home so Chicky could have his wish of passing at home. Without her help through this terrible journey, he may not have been able to be granted his biggest wish. You are appreciated.

We would also like to thank the many health professionals that were part of Chicky’s journey from his family doctor, Dr. Misik and his wonderful admin Jolene in Hubbards at Hubbards Family Practice, the Pharmacy Staff at Hubbards Pharmasave, Dr. Trites, his ENT doctor and team in Halifax, Dr. Lamond, his oncologist and team in Halifax, Dr. McGuire and his wonderful admin Cindy in Chester at the Same Day Clinic, the many Nurses from VON, RN Melanie and Dr. Gibson from Palliative Care of the South Shore, the staff of the 3rd and 11th floor for Cancer at the VG and to any one else that helped him along his difficult journey. We appreciate you all.

Following Chicky’s wishes, there will be a graveside service held on August 27th, 2025, at 11 am at the St. James Anglican Cemetery in Fox Point followed by a Celebration of Life at the The Hubbards Lions Club in Fox Point. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Personal Care Cremations.

Donations in Chicky’s memory to Pro Kids, Chester, would be appreciated by the family.
