James “Jimmy” Derek Meisner
July 10, 1969 – July 29, 2025
It is with deepest sorrow and heavy hearts that the family of James “Jimmy” Derek Meisner, 56, of Mahone Bay Nova Scotia, sadly share his sudden passing on July 29, 2025 peacefully at home.
Born in Lunenburg and growing up over the years in Mahone Bay, Jimmy had a most wonderful appreciation for life.
Upon completion of high school, Jimmy furthered his studies at NSCC, Bridgewater NS, in successful completion as an electronic technician in 1989.
In the years before his health concerns began taking their toll, Jimmy was always well known for his wisdom, dedication and utmost abilities within the work force, which included Highliner Foods Incorporated, and Stelia Aerospace North America; both located in Lunenburg NS. He was also a dedicated member of the Mahone Bay Volunteer Fire Department for several years.
At home he had a great passion for the nostalgic era, especially his idol Marilyn Monroe. Jimmy also had an eternal love for music, including his most cherished and beloved guitar; as well as a great fondness and unconditional love of all animals. With his passion and skill with computers and technology, he was always ready to lend his knowledge to those around him with patience and kindness. Throughout the duration of this most wonderful and precious life that we were all so very blessed to have shared with Jimmy over the years, his memory will always be a keepsake which will never part. Leaving us with a timeless message of love, remembrance and a very special bond that will fondly remain deep within the hearts of his family and closest friends.
James is survived by his dear mother Faye, brothers Chris, Paul (Carolyn), Dale (Kimberly), and his sister in law Patsy, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Donald, oldest brother Michael, and niece Sherry.
Cremation has taken place and has been entrusted to Personal Care Cremations and Memorial Services. A service to commemorate James’ life will be announced at a later date in time.
In remembrance to honour a most wonderful and caring life as a son, brother, uncle and friend, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association, and SHAID tree Animal Shelter.

My dearest Uncle Jimmy,
I am sitting here at home with such a feeling of emptiness and broken heart since learning of your sudden passing.
Every moment we shared together upon our visits with you over the years will be so dearly treasured, especially my fondest memories of our gaming with one another and just overall having so much fun.
You will truly remain a most memorable chapter within the book of my life and will remain a very special part of me deep in my heart always and forever.
I will miss you so much.

I was rather shocked to hear of Jim’s passing, I’ve hung out with Jim for many years, we played together on stage together back in high school in an Alice Cooper Tribute band and at Riverfest a few years ago doing the same act. Not only was Jim a good friend to me, he was also liked by my family as he spent a couple of Christmas eves with my family and myself. Jim will be missed by many especially by his friends and family.
I was shocked and saddened to hear about Uncle Jimmy’s passing. It’s hard to put into words what a unique and joyful presence he was, and how much he’ll be missed.
I’ll always remember those visits to Mahone Bay when when we were younger, and the way Uncle Jimmy would fill the room with energy. He had such a special way of making everyone feel included and seen, and those memories have stayed with me over the years.
One of the things I’ll miss is his custom facebook messages, whether it was for a birthday, Christmas, or just to say congratulations, they were always creative, thoughtful, and full of his personality and his own art. Even years later into my adulthood, he would never miss a beat in taking time out of his day to create and send them. They never failed to make me smile. It was such a simple thing, but it meant a lot, and it always reminded me of how much he cared.
His love of music was infectious, you could really tell he had a pride and passion in the music he played, and even though I never really took to art or technology like my sisters did, I could always see how much he loved sharing those passions with us. He had a real gift, not just for being talented, but for wanting to bring others into the things that brought him joy.
Uncle Jimmy touched the lives of so many people, through his kindness, his creativity, and his sense of humour. His memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him, in our family, and in the many friends he made along the way.
He’ll always be remembered with love.

Thank you for every CD you had ever burnt for me – I still have many of them in my possession, unplayable after all
these years, but each disc still precious to me.
Thank you for talk with me, encouraging me as a fellow creative, when many of my peers might see my art as an oddity. I’m sorry we never did get to collaborate on an album cover. Life came at both of us fast.
Thank you for being there in my time of need, to loan me your laptop when my computer had finally worn down, and for being so gracious when I accidentally broke the screen, and subsequently mangled it with a cheap part when I went to try to fix it myself. You were always so much better than me when it came to hardware – I hope that you managed to salvage my mess in some way. I still beat myself up over it, even after all this time.
Thank you for the hazy memories from decades ago, allowing a much smaller me to crawl over you, fashioning hair ties and clips in your hair – I’m sure it took a lot of patience to put up with not only me, but my younger siblings, too.
If I could reverse time and say “hello” one last time, I would.
Wherever the beyond takes you, I hope you find peace, and I hope you know you are loved, and will continue to be loved.
Rest easy, and thank you for being in our lives.

I had the pleasure of seeing and getting to know Jimmy over the past couple of years and his devilish smile and his great laugh will remain in my heart ,
I sure was proud to call him friend .

I spent many evening with Jimmy as a teenager. He was always quiet and reflective, and the sweetest person. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing.
Hard to believe that Jimmy has passed as suddenly as he did. Jimmy was one of my very first group of friends, meeting him in Grade Primary and knowing him through high school. His humour was always so clever; just look up his write-up in his senior ParkView yearbook!
It was so revealing to see his love of music grow throughout the years. Picking up the guitar may have been one of the best things he ever did. Not for fame or riches, but to pursue it for the love of the music.

You were always so hyped when you heard about our dreams and goals, and always believed in us that we would make it in life in our own ways. You inspired me to follow my creative nature and to not give it up no matter what.
You left us too soon, but heaven gained a rockstar of an angel – I just know you are putting on one hell of a show up there on your guitar!

Very sorry to hear of Jimmy’s passing. I will always remember him driving around in his little Chevette with Pink Floyd playing as a teen ager. He was a very kind person.

I am so very sad to hear this. I knew Jimmy very well during our teenage years as he was my first boyfriend.
He was kind and caring gentle and genuine. His musical interests were instilled into me during this time(Pink Floyd and Jiimi Hendrix) which stuck with me for life and we shared many other common interests and great times together
I have long since moved across the country but Jimmy still holds a special place in my heart. I have many many photos and stories and memories with him to remember him by.
