Patricia (Pat) Vera Guest, nee Linnell
31 October 1930 – 24 December 2025
Pat was born in Liverpool, England, to Eleanor Christian and Harry Linnell, one of two daughters and the only one to survive into her teens. She escaped the Liverpool Blitz in 1940 by moving with her mother to Anglesey in Wales. She became a Montessori teacher specialized in early childhood development before marriage, and later emigrated, with her mother, husband, and two sons, to Nova Scotia, Canada in 1966. She was predeceased by her sister Vivienne in 1937 and her husband Dr. Dennis Guest in 1997. She is survived by her two sons, Philip (Cathy Kerr) and Richard (Lynn Doyle), four grandchildren – Haley Brianna (Kevin Tilley), Tyler Richard, Tristan Brin Philip (Laura Keeler), Taran Troy Alistair (Natasha Tacoma), one great grandson, Felix Taran Tacoma Guest, who is expecting the arrival of a sibling as we write, and cousins in England including close friend and confidante Geoffrey Yates.
Pat was a devoted, generous mother and grandmother, and a good friend to all lucky enough to know her. Early in life she liked riding horses, and spent much time at her family homestead in North Wales. Later, she enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, lawn bowling, doing the daily crosswords and sudoku, and loving the warmth of the sun at the beach or on her deck overlooking the sea, most recently at her Admiralty Place residence in Dartmouth and close to her family on St. Margaret’s Bay. She was kind, wise, endlessly curious about everything, very smart and independent, and deeply caring – all traits that will continue to guide her family into the future.
Remembrance is a perennial journey, and the celebration of her life will reflect that in lieu of a gathering. Donations in her name to the Canadian Wildlife Federation, the War Amps, or any other charity of choice would honour the gratitude and kindness with which she lived.
She will be deeply missed by all of us.

Richard, Phillip and families, our deepest condolences in the loss of your Mom, Pat. We’ll always remember your gracious Mom, her big smile and our wonderful conversations whenever we met. I was so terribly sad to hear of Pats passing. Sending condolences to all of her family. She was a lovely person & a good friend during the time we lived in Nova Scotia & we continued to keep in touch on my return to the UK. She will be missed by her family & all of her friends.

I am very sorry for your loss. Pat was my friend who welcomed me into her bridge community. We had many games as partners and I will miss her, not only as a bridge player and friend, but as a person who called a spade a spade – a directness that was not always appreciated.
