The family of Paul Eric Caney, 80, of Chester Basin, announces his passing on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater. Born in Cliff, England, he was a son of the late Edwin Dennis and Renee (Matthews) Caney.
Paul proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 30 years, retiring as a Petty Officer—a standard of discipline and dedication he carried throughout his life. In his younger years, Paul devoted his time to supporting his sons, coaching hockey, driving the Zamboni, and ensuring everyone’s skates were sharp. An avid reader, his love for books was evident in the thousands that lined his basement walls. Later in life, he cherished time spent playing board games with family and friends, with Yahtzee being a clear favorite.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jacquie; his sons, Jason (Chester Basin), Andrew (Jodi), and Scott (Kristina), both of Toronto; his cherished grandchildren, Connor, Ava, and Alex; his brothers, Derek (Kathryn) and John (Penny), both of British Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Paul’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public memorial service. Arrangements are entrusted to Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be deeply appreciated by the family.

Dear Jacqui and family, Jim and I are thinking about all of you at this sad time and we are offering our condolences to you.
AJ will miss his old hockey Buddy from Chester rink, and coached your son. Our thoughts and prayers go to you and the family at this difficult time. I’m not sure if you are aware that our son Michael passed away at the age of 43. So I’m sure there is a hockey game going on up in Heaven.

Paul was my nephew and although only 2 years younger than me he always called me Auntie, which actually amused me but showed how he thought of me.
After emigrating to Canada with his family I didn’t see him until he paid a visit to the UK and came to see me and my husband. We subsequently came to Canada and met up with Paul, Jacquie and sons when they visited BC.
I know he will be sadly missed by all his family and all the people that knew him in Chester Basin.
