Raymond Gerard MacPhee

With a deep sense of loss, the family of Raymond Gerard MacPhee, 72, of Bridgewater announces his peaceful passing on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater. Born in Sydney, Cape Breton, he was the beloved youngest son of the late Wilfred (Billy) MacPhee and Sadie (MacDonald) MacPhee.
Ray was an engaging personality who enhanced his life with many close relationships with friends and family. Hailing from a loving and musical home, Ray picked up the guitar in his youth and rarely put it down. Ray never met a fun time he didn’t enjoy or a stranger he didn’t see as a possible friend. Hockey, baseball, golf, parties and dances were all heartily participated in at any opportunity. Later in life he used his interpersonal skills to his advantage in his career in real estate.
A member of the Black Street Aces organization for many years, Ray built and maintained many lifelong friendships. He treasured them. Friends and his family will always remember his quick sense of humour, his infectious smile, warm heart, and endless supply of stories. Forever the optimist, his positive attitude was highlighted through his courageous approach to his cancer diagnosis.
Ray leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Janet, née Perry, and his daughters, Sarah (Sean Harrison) MacPhee of Dartmouth, Katrin (Mark Culligan) MacPhee of Halifax, and Brenna (Ghazi) Jarrar of Kawartha Lakes, ON, all of whom he was immensely proud. “Poppy” will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Alden, Rowan, Iris, and Angus. He will also be sadly missed by his sisters, Anne MacDonald of Sydney, Hughena MacIntyre of Sackville, and Wilma (Tom) Pyke of Sydney, as well as his many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Ray was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Donnie and Lincoln MacPhee, and his sister, Kay Dickson.
The family would like to thank the entire medical team that accompanied him along his cancer journey, especially the staff of 4A and the Oncology Clinic at South Shore Regional Hospital. A celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at the Saint Mary’s Boat Club in Halifax at 2 pm. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Personal Care Cremations and Memorial Services.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Oncology Clinic at South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater. This can be done by contacting the South Shore Health Services Foundation at 902-543-8065.

So shocked to hear of Ray’s passing just now. Mike Prest – a longtime friend of Ray’s called me and informed me on his passing. I spoke with Ray within the past couple years on the phone as we both live in Bridgewater. We jovially spoke of our comparative tribulations with cancer as we were both declared “terminal” (aren’t we all LOL) and figured we’d have a chance to get together. Alas, it was not to be as we let time catch up with us. Both Mike and I regret not being able to attend Ray’s Life Celebration as we had some great stories to share! Ray was immensely proud of his girls and let us know that any time he got the chance. My sincere condolences go out to his girls, family and friends. Rip bro.

We had the pleasure of Rays company about 3 years ago at our annual BBQ in Baddeck. Many stories were told and fact checked from over all the years of friendship.Afternoon,evening and the wee hours . It was quite the slice of life!
A reunion of sorts with the Macleod brothers Brian, Dunc ,Bruce and many others who play and love the guitar. He hoped to come back the next year however things didn’t work out for him.

I was saddened to hear of Ray’s passing. I have many great memories of time spent in his company over the years. He was a great guy. My condolences on your loss.
I have a heavy heart hearing of Ray`s passing My thoughts go out to Janet and the girls He was the greatest manager I ever had in my 25 years of selling Real Estate It wasn`t just a job for him He made us all feel like family and gave me a purpose to go to work Many could learn from him He always had an open door to those who were lucky enough to use it We talked every week and so happy we kept in touch I will miss him xo
Oh Janet, I am so saddened and shocked to read of Ray’s passing. Last time I saw him was in Sobey’s and we had a nice chat. Of course, being the generous and kind-hearted soul he was, he made sure to say, “Now if you ever need anything, give me and Janet a call.” A lot of people may offer that sentiment but with Ray, I knew I could. Especially when he took the time to make sure I had your phone number!
One thing I miss about retirement is not seeing you in the library. I always smile when I think of the time I got Colin Campbell to do a reading from his book, “Free days with George”. I met Ray at the door and he says, “Janet couldn’t make it so she sent me in her place!” And it’s been a LONG time since I’ve seen your girls.
There are no words to help you feel better but know you’re thought of in this terrible time. Godspeed to you, Janet and your girls…
