Richard James Boutilier

Richard James Boutilier passed away peacefully on July 2nd, 2025, at home in Chester Basin. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Morley and Doreen (Fraser) Boutilier. Loving husband to Jane, and proud father to Corey, Christy and Leah.
Richard lived life to the fullest and spread his infectious sense of humour everywhere he went. He grew up in Timberlea and loved to ride bikes all the way to Brookside to visit Jane. Richard wore a few hats early in life before beginning his 30-year career as a telephone cable repairman. After “retirement” he found much joy in driving children to and from school for the South Shore Regional School Board. His passion for music was a precursor to legendary drum performances on the dashboard and steering wheel of the family mini van, while everyone sang along. Richard would jam with anyone at any time and was the drummer for great local acts such as Mainline, Dark and Stormy and the Parson Brothers. Richard was always up for a party and loved to sing and dance the night away. A jack of all trades, he built family homes in Brookside, Wile Settlement, Ardoise and Chester Basin, from studs to trim. He was an avid skier, sailor, gardener, hunter, fisherman, and hockey player, playing with TASA minor hockey, Sir John A. MacDonald high school, and later with the RCMP detachment in Windsor.
A man of faith, Richard was a member and deacon at the Windsor Baptist Church and volunteered at many youth group events over the years. He shared his musical talent with the faith community and played drums in worship bands and ‘The Loft’ band.
His most rewarding achievement was becoming Gido. The love for his grandchildren brought an even brighter glow to his beaming personality.
Richard leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Jane; children, Corey (Tamlyne Baranski); Christy, and Leah (Nathan Miller) Boutilier; grandchildren, Caitlyn Mclavy, Rio Johal, Raina and Laura Boutilier; sisters, Roberta Boutilier, Ellen (Greg) Lynch, Gail (Raymond) Legere, Patti (Chris) Trenholm, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Friday, July 11,2025 at St. Andrews Anglican Church, Timberlea at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Cathy Lee Cunningham officiating. Interment at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Personal Care Cremations.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Chisholm Services for Children would be appreciated by the family.

So sorry to hear of Richard’s passing. He was a lovely person. When he’d come to the Post Office, he always had a smile and we’d chat.
One of my memories of Richard was when he drove school bus in Western Shore area. My great nephew was on his bus. One day the bus was early, and my Dad was just on his way to pick Keaton up. He phoned my parents house, and kept this little boy on the bus until my Dad arrived. That was very nice of him; showed how much he cared.
Great memories will keep him forever in your hearts.

Richard Boutilier was my father in law and my friend. Not many married men get to claim that.
But it’s true. I couldn’t have been more lucky to be his son in law.
From the moment I met him he treated me with kindness and respect. Quickly, we both realised we were alot alike I think.
We both played drums, guitar and sang.we both played in band’s. We both enjoyed carpentry and an ice cold beer. Especially around a campfire. In fact if I met Richard under any other circumstances, I believe we would have got along just as well.
He was a talented man and a jack of all trades who took on home projects by himself that would have had me questioning my ability as a tradesman to complete alone, and for that I held him in high regard.
I hold the memory of Richard and the great times we had very close to my heart, and I will never forget him.
To know Richard Boutilier was to love him . And his memory will live on forever in our hearts.
I’m not one to claim to know where a person goes when they die, but wherever Richard is now, I know he busted through the front door dancing with a beer in his hand, a smile on his face , ready to strike up a conversation with anyone who gave him the time . Rest In Power.
Dear Jane,
It is with a very heavy heart that I learned of my dear friend Richard. I loved the times we spent together when you were here in Windsor. You became an important part of The Loft ministry and all the members send our sincere condolences to you and the family. Richard played drums for the band but he was more than that, he was a great influence in helping youth and adult alike to know Jesus in a very personal way.
We shall meet again one day in eternity and I hope you still will want to play for the band again in heaven.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Richard’s passing. He was a great guy and will be missed. My heartfelt sympathy to you all.
Hebrews 10:14 reads, “For by one offering Jesus has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.”
That describes how Jesus, through his one offering on the cross, perfected for all time (forever) those sanctified (set apart for God). When Richard and the rest of us said yes to Jesus at salvation, God forgave all his/our his sins, past, present, future. That means those who say to what Christ offers, will see Richard again in heaven. That’s God awesome grace!

Im so sorry to see that Richard passed away. I spoke many times with Richard at the bus garage when I was leadhand mechanic. he was one of the kindest souls, always smiling , . a wonderful man who will be surly missed . my deepest sympathies to his family and friends
