Robert (Bob) Wayne Cuming, age 81, of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at the South Shore Regional Hospital. He was born on February 24, 1944, in Shelburne, Nova Scotia to Malcolm and Kathleen (Seamone) Cuming of Shag Harbour.
Growing up, Bob was a server in the Anglican Church and was often found on the baseball diamond or the hockey rink, where his competitive spirit and good-natured humor shone through. He was a proud Mason and devoted 25 years to the Bridgewater Fire Department, serving as Deputy Chief and later being named an Honorary Member—an honor he wore with pride. Bob was also an enthusiastic member of the Bridgewater Curling Club, always ready with a smile, a story, or a good laugh.
Bob loved life at the cottage on Bell Island, Nova Scotia, where he spent countless happy days visiting with neighbors, tending to the property, relaxing in his shed, playing cards, eating lobster, and going clam digging. He had a deep love for the outdoors and never missed a chance to go hunting, fishing, or out for a hearty breakfast with friends. Even in his final days, Bob’s spirit never dimmed—he was still making plans for his next trip to the hunting camp in Simpsons Corner.
Bob began his working life at Atlantic Wholesale in Hebbville, Nova Scotia. In 1969, he and Jane purchased Seamone’s Bakery from his Uncle Archie, running it with dedication and heart for the next ten years. Never one to sit still for long, Bob also started a small business recharging fire extinguishers in his parents shed—a venture that would eventually spark a lifelong career. In 1979, Bob and Jane founded Cumings’ Fire & Safety, building it from the ground up with hard work, integrity, and family at its core. Many of his nieces and nephews fondly remember his sage advice, life lessons, kind heart, and trademark mischievous sense of humour.
Bob was a man of great kindness and generosity, devoted to his family, friends, and community. He was the kind of neighbour everyone hopes to have—always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, or offer a word of encouragement. With a sharp mind for business and an even bigger heart, Bob lived life with purpose, humor, and an unmistakable sparkle in his eye. He was truly one of a kind—larger than life, deeply loved, and impossible to forget.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jane (Richardson) Cuming, his sister Margaret (late Jamie) Withrow, brother-in-law Jim (Katie) Richardson, nephews: Eric (Jolyn) Swain, Christopher (Corinne) Swain, Benjamin (Kate) Richardson, nieces: Heather (Karl) Kowalcyzk, Stacy (Darren) Fichter, Tanya (Kristopher) Baker, Sarah (Jim) Floyd, great nieces and nephews, and special friends.
He was predeceased by his sister Patsy and brother-in-law John Swain, brother-in-law Jamie Withrow, his inlaws Pennell and Beulah Richardson, and beloved golden retriever, Whiskey.
Cremation has taken place, and in keeping with Bob’s wishes, there will be no visitation or formal service. He asked that family and friends instead take time to be together, share stories, and enjoy fond memories of the good times. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services.
Donations in his memory may be made to the VON of Queens & Lunenburg County or a charity of your choice.

Dear Jane,
You and Bob were always dear to us as Bell Island neighbors. We will never forget the concerts on your porch and the fireworks that followed. Nor we will forget the many acts of kindness you did for us and for our family. Bob certainly is an example of a life well lived. God bless you and all your family.
My condolences to Jane and family. I always enjoyed my conversations with Bob. He’s a great person and will never be forgotten. During these times, it is healing to be close with family and friends and to celebrate the life of Bob.
Jane, So sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. The day I was fortunate to meet him was in a parking lot in Mahone Bay. A number of years ago. I bought some paper money and coins from him at a flea market there. What an interesting man. A good man ! We became long distance friends. I really enjoyed our telephone conversations over the years. I will sure miss that. Eternal peace to you Bob ! God bless Jane

To say that Bob will be missed is an understatement. We were very fortunate to have been able to share a little bit of Bob’s day with him, most every day.
He was funny, kind and one of the most generous people I have ever known. We will miss his stories….and there were many! I don’t think there was a day that someone didn’t say…I wonder where Bob is…..if he wasn’t at the diner by a certain time. He was a good man and will be missed dearly. He will never be forgotten.

Many, many, fond memories growing up with the Cuming family, I met Bob when I was 5 years old and spent all my youth in the company of Bob, Patsy, Margaret, Kaye and Mac. They all helped to shape my future. I also knew Jane for many years as well. Together Jane and I made the High School Yearbook profitable for the first time ever.
Bob taught me how to snare rabbits, pluck chickens, make homemade ice cream, fish, camp, plus many other unmentionables. He will be greatly missed. Very sad day.
